Instagram is adding a shopping payments feature that lets you link your credit or debit card to pay for services directly in the app.
The Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform has quietly begun testing the feature with UK and US users ahead of a wider rollout, confirms TechCrunch.
Instagram is stocked full of retailers, ads and celebs trying to sell items so the feature doesn’t come as a surprise.
It lets brands add a purchase option to their posts, allowing you to buy everything from sneakers to gadgets by tapping a pop-up tag that directs you to an online shop.
But now Instagram is going one better — the new feature means you won’t even have to leave the app to snap up the items you like.
For now, it’s limited to payments for booking appointments, like haircuts at your local salon and restaurant reservations.
But it will soon be expanded to include movie tickets and if it’s successful, you can expect it to encompass fashion too.
All you have to do to start buying things is register your credit or debit card to your Instagram account and set up a security PIN — that’s it.
