President Trump has bashed Amazon for supposedly exploiting a sweetheart deal with the US Postal Service — but he has millions of other reasons to resent the online retail giant, a new report said Wednesday.
The president’s net worth plummeted by more than $600 million in the past year, according to the Forbes 400 List of the wealthiest people in America.
And the magazine reported Wednesday that a big reason Trump’s real estate holdings had slumped was because retail values were struggling in response to Amazon’s gains.
Forbes said the president is worth $3.1 billion, down from $3.7 billion a year ago — a loss that dropped him from 156th on the list to 248th.
By contrast, Amazon owner Jeff Bezos — who also owns The Washington Post, whose opinion pages regularly slam Trump — placed second on the Forbes list for the second straight year, with a net worth of $81.5 billion.
On CNN Tuesday, the magazine’s assistant managing editor, Kerry Dolan, blamed the president’s real estate losses on e-commerce’s domination over retail, mentioning Amazon.
She specifically mentioned the lease of the Niketown store and the Trump Tower property.
