Nearly two years to the day American viewers watched Olympic gold medalist-turned-reality star Bruce Jenner announce that he was a transgender woman on national TV, Caitlyn Jenner will be back on ABC’s 20/20 Friday (10 ET/PT) discussing what her life has been like since that life-changing April 24, 2015, interview.
Right off the bat, Diane Sawyer noted in a preview that the Jenner she encountered in 2017 was “someone very different” from the anxious person she first met in 2015.
“I had to put walls up for a while because of the paparazzi,” Jenner, who is promoting a new memoir, The Secrets of My Life, explained as they walked around her home. “But they’re all down now, baby, and we have so much to talk about.”
Here’s a taste of what to expect from the interview with Jenner:
Finish this sentence: Sawyer began the conversation the same way she did in 2015 asking Jenner to complete the sentence: “Bruce Jenner/Caitlyn Jenner is …” But where Bruce Jenner tearfully answered that he was “always very confused” about gender identity as far back as childhood, this time the response was, “Caitlyn Jenner is happy. Peaceful. All the confusion has left me.”
Does she ever have doubts or regrets, or miss being Bruce? “Never,” said Jenner, who confirmed in her book (due April 25) that she’d undergone gender reassignment surgery. “I never had a doubt. I did the right thing. As her former persona, she doesn’t miss him “at all.”
