Americans will eat more meat than ever before this year

Americans will eat more protein-rich meat in 2018 than ever before, in part because of trendy low-carb diets, the Department of Agriculture predicted Tuesday.

The average American will gobble down 222.2 pounds of red meat and poultry this year, topping a record set in 2004, when consumers ate 221.9 pounds, according to the annual USDA per-capita forecast reported by Bloomberg.
